CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. — The Campbell River Storm are pleased to announce the signing of 2007-born forward Timofei Svetlakov from AKM Tula of the MHL’s Gold Division.
Svetlakov spent last season with Sakhalinskiye Akuly of the MHL, recording five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 35 games. Prior to making the jump to the MHL, he produced 16 points in 14 games at the U18 level.
Playing junior hockey in Canada has long been a goal for Svetlakov, who is eager to begin the next chapter of his career in Campbell River.
“Playing junior hockey in Canada has been a big goal of mine, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to continue developing as a player and experience Canadian hockey,” said Svetlakov. “It means a lot to me. I’m excited to start this new chapter with the Campbell River Storm and give everything I have to the team.”
Svetlakov believes the Storm will provide him with the ideal environment to continue developing while helping him take the next step in his career.
“I chose the Campbell River Storm because I felt it was the right place for me to develop, compete and take the next step in my career,” he said. “I really liked the organization, the coaching staff and the opportunity they are giving me. I’m excited to become part of the team and contribute as much as I can.”
The versatile forward describes himself as a high-energy, two-way player who takes pride in contributing in every area of the game.
“Fans can expect me to play with a lot of energy, compete hard every shift and do whatever I can to help the team win,” said Svetlakov. “I’m a two-way player who likes to be involved in all areas of the ice. I want to play fast, create chances, work hard defensively and bring a competitive attitude every night. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans at the Brindy!”
Storm Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone believes Svetlakov has the ability to make an immediate impact in Campbell River.
“We are very excited to welcome Timofei to the Storm family and think he can be a dynamic player for us immediately upon arrival,” said Stone. “He has been incredibly patient while waiting for his visa to be approved, and we are all excited to get him on the ice with the group this week. He plays a hard and fast game, is reliable at both ends of the ice and can play any forward position. He should help make us a much stronger group up front!”
Svetlakov is expected to join the Storm this week and will wear #96 this weekend.
