Tuesday, May 3, 2016

The Campbell River Storm Junior Hockey Club announces that Trevor Bottomley has been traded to the Osoyoos Coyotes of the KIJHL for the 2016-17 season. In exchange, Colton Rhodes, Ryan Morrell and Reid Wilson are heading to the North Island.

On announcing the trade, General Manager, Lee Stone acknowledges the 2014-15 ‘Fan Favourite’ and his contributions, “I can't thank Trevor Bottomley enough for what he has done for our program over the last two seasons. As a 17 year old Trevor was outstanding in a shutdown role, helping lead our group to Triple Gold. Returning this year as an 18 year old, Trevor stepped up as a leader and helped us return to the Cyclone Taylor Cup tournament winning Bronze. The entire organization would like to thank Trevor for his services and wish him the very best of luck moving forward.”

In return, the Black and Red are getting some quality players. According to Stone, “As for the three players we are bringing in, our excitement level couldn't be any higher! In Rhodes and Morrell we pick up two left handed D-men that can play in the top 4 of any lineup. Both play a strong two way game with the ability to move the puck very effectively.  After this past season, energy players was an area we felt we needed to improve on and that is exactly what Wilson brings to the table. A very hard working, physical player who has an offensive touch.”

Colton Rhodes, from Sherman Oaks, California, is coming off a good run in the playoffs where he averaged better than a point per game for the Coyotes. Regarding the trade he says, “First getting the news was very exciting. I look forward to the possibility of playing with players like Carter Hikichi and Riley Welyk who I was lucky enough to meet while in the SJHL at Notre Dame. I've heard nothing but great things about the organization, community, and fans. I am very honored and proud to be a part of such a great family.”

The word on Ryan Morrell is that he has a wicked shot from the point and is physical. The Red Deer hockey product, when describing his style says, “I would say I’m an offensive player that can be physical if needed and I’m not scared to go to the dirty areas.” The 6’ 2” defenseman scored 10 goals and 18 assists last season with Osoyoos.

What can Campbell River fans expect from Reid Wilson? His response is, “I’m a tall power and playmaking forward that loves to bring fast pace energy into the game.” He adds that he looks forward to playing at the Brindy, “Playing in a great town that really supports the hockey team.” The 6’2”, 175 pounder from Richmond, B.C., picked up 28 points during the 2015-16 regular season.

Rhodes and Morrell will be trying out for Junior ‘A’ clubs while Wilson will be reporting directly to the Campbell River main training camp in August. All three players are 1997 born.
