Ryan was a heart and soul hockey player for our organization. Consistently out working his peers.” – General Manager Lee Stone

The Campbell River Storm Junior Hockey Club is pleased to announce that defenceman Ryan Grills, has committed to the University of Victoria Men’s Hockey Club for the 2016-17 season.

In making the announcement, UVic General Manager and Head Coach, Harry Schamhart said, “It is important to find players that have experience and leadership, Ryan had successful seasons with the Storm.”

Grills chose the University of Victoria because of the business program. He wants to continue to play hockey and earn a degree from the Peter B. Gustafson School of Business.

The Whistler hockey product has had a successful run with the Campbell River Storm. In three seasons, he has been part of a team that has captured a league championship, two medals at the Cyclone Taylor Cup (Gold and Bronze) and a Gold at the Keystone Cup.

Stone expanded on his comments about the 6’1”, 190 pound alternate captain, “Ryan was a leader from the minute he showed up in 2013-2014 as a fresh faced 17 year old rookie. I couldn't be more excited to see Ryan leave our program as a young man and enter University of Victoria's hockey program. A strong stay at home defenseman, Ryan consistently led our PK and was a defensive mainstay with his physical play and shot blocking ability. Best of luck to Ryan and the Vikes!"
