Deakin and Fodchuk Sign on for 17/18

The Campbell River Storm Junior Hockey Club are pleased to announce the commitment of two young players who were affiliated with the team last season. Goaltender Spencer Deakin (’99) and Forward Justin Fodchuk ('99) will be on the squad for the upcoming season.

Deakin came onto the scene in the late stages of the regular season when both Storm’s starting goalies were lost to injury in the same game. He established himself as a top notch netminder immediately and carried the yoke in the first round of the playoffs helping the club to a 4 game sweep.

From North Vancouver, the former North Island Silvertip earned a 4-1 record and a 3.13 GAA.

Head Coach and General Manager, Lee Stone, appreciates what the young goalie brought to the Storm. “What can I say about Deaks? Comes in the last regular season game of the year in his first Junior game and takes Nanaimo to OT and then proceeds to win the first round series against Peninsula as a 17 year old affiliate player. A great kid off the ice, we are very excited about Spencer moving forward.”

Justin Fodchuk played two games as an AP last season and he made an impression. The Vancouver North West Giant Major Midget player fit well into the line-up and scored his first Junior goal in the playoffs against the Panthers.

A resident of Sechelt, the 6’ 1” 185 pound forward scored 6 goals and added 6 assists with the Giants.

Stone says Fodchuk is a great addition, “Justin is all heart and soul. A fantastic young man away from the rink and the type of competitor every team wants on the ice. A big, strong player who skates well, Justin showed in his limited games last year with the Storm that he is more than ready to be a key contributor!”

The regular season begin on Friday, September 1 at home against the Oceanside Generals.
