Chris Smith Acquired from Westshore

The Campbell River Storm Junior Hockey Club is pleased to announce the acquisition of 1996 born goaltender Chris Smith from the Westshore Wolves. In exchange Westshore receives 1997 born defenseman Joe Gage.

According to Smith, “It’s a huge honour to be traded to the Storm, a team that has a history of winning; I look forward to playing my last year of junior hockey in Campbell River.” He adds, “When playing as an opponent here I realized that there is something special about the support in this community and I’m really excited to play in front of the great fans at the Brindy.”

Smith, from Victoria, has played his entire junior career with the Wolves and sports a record of 28 wins, 23 losses.

Gage, a former Campbell River Tyee, will be taking classes at Camosun College and looking to do an apprenticeship down island. He had a solid 2015-16 season in the Black and Red picking up 23 points in 34 games. He was very pleased to have worn the Storm jersey and says, "I'd like to thank the entire Campbell River Storm organization for making playing for my hometown team so special. From the volunteers to the fans, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Campbell River!"

The last word goes to General Manager, Lee Stone, "Unfortunately sometimes in our landscape players have to make moves for reasons outside the sport. Joey was an exceptionally hard working, motivated player for us who did anything he was asked, so when it came time to help him find a situation down island so he could attend school it was a no brainer to make it happen right away for him. I can't thank Joe enough for being a consummate professional playing in his hometown, which isn't easy. However, as disappointing as it is to lose Joey we were able to make an improvement in between the pipes adding twenty year old goaltender Chris Smith. Chris has wanted to play in Campbell River for a few years now and we were able to make this trade work for both sides. We would like to wish Joey the best of luck in Westshore and are excited to add a goaltender of Chris' caliber!"

As part of the trade, the Storm also received futures from the Wolves which were transferred to the Peninsula Panthers to close the book on the 2014-15 deal to acquire Reece Costain.
