AJ Boyed Aquired

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. — The Campbell River Storm have acquired 2008-born left-handed forward AJ Boyd from the Peninsula Panthers.

Boyd recorded two assists in five games with the Panthers before making an immediate impact in Campbell River. He scored twice in his Storm debut on Sunday against the Nanaimo Buccaneers.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to join a great group and help the Storm have a successful season,” said Boyd. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the guys, becoming part of the community, and working toward our goals together.”

Boyd describes himself as a big, physical and competitive player who uses his size and skill to create opportunities. He looks to players such as Matthew Knies and Matt Boldy for the way they combine physical play with offensive ability.

“My short-term goal is to earn the trust of my teammates and coaches, contribute every night, and help the Storm compete for a championship,” Boyd said. “Long term, I want to continue developing my game and see how far I can take hockey while putting myself in a position to play at the highest level possible.”

Storm Head Coach and General Manager Lee Stone said the club had been interested in Boyd since the summer.

“AJ is a player we identified in the summer as someone we felt could be an immediate contributor in the VIJHL,” said Stone. “When we had the opportunity to acquire AJ, we jumped on it and couldn’t be happier. He’s a big body that moves well and plays a heavy game.”

Boyd’s two-goal debut gave Storm fans an early look at what he can bring to the lineup.

“His debut at the Brindy sure helped him secure a few fans in the building,” Stone added. “We are excited to see many more!”
