Undefeated at home and winless on the road is how the Storm sit after their first six games after a spirited 3-1 win last Friday night at home against Kerry Park then a 5-1 loss to the undefeated league leaders the Victoria Cougars on Sunday in Victoria.
Like the previous game against the Islanders Storm goalie Richie Virtanan was the game star as he robbed the Islanders numerous times while making 27 saves for the win.
A bench minor to Kerry Park to start the game had the Storm on the powerplay at the opening face-off and they took full advantage as they went up1-0 at the 45 second mark as Brandon Wakita banged in a rebound from the side of the net.
The Storm ran into penalty problems in the 1st period and on the 4th straight Storm penalty the Islanders tied it at 1-1 as after making the first two saves Virtanan couldn't stop the 3rd as the Islanders Devin Marshall popped it in.
The 2nd period saw the Storm's Mateas Larock score to put the Storm up 3-1 even thou they were outshot 11-9. A great pass from Travis Gordon put Larock in alone at 2.06 to make it 2-1 then the powerplay clicked at 10.33 as Larock had a centering pass go off his skate to make it 3-1.
The third period saw the Storm in penalty troubles again but Virtanan stoned the Islanders at every chance including three big saves when the Storm were down two men to preserve the 3-1 home ice win.
The Storm traveled to Victoria on Sunday to battle the Cougars who were fresh of a 13-0 whitewash of Comox Valley and once again Virtanan came up big to keep the score respectable as the Storm were outshot 49- 19.
The Storm travel to Oceanside Wednesday night to go up against the Generals who they beat 6-1 on opening night.
Other scores over the weekend saw Pennisula beat Sooke 9-8, Oceanside 7 Comox Valley 1, Oceanside 3-2 in overtime over Kerry Park also in overtime it was Comox Valley 8-7 over Sooke, Oceanside 3 Sannich 2 and it was Victoria 6-3 over Pennisula.
The Storm return to the arena ice Friday night against Sannich then host Comox Valley next Friday night then head to Kerry Park for a Saturday night game againest the Islanders.
