Two road losses sandwiched in between a home ice win weren’t the results the Storm were hoping for over the past week and to make matters worse a combination of Kerry Park and Oceanside wins have the locals slipping down to 4th and from 1st to 3rd in their division..

The three game week began Wednesday night in Oceanside against the Generals who seem to have the Storm’s number this season and they had it once again as they ended January the same way they started it with a win against the Storm 3-2.

On Friday night the Storm returned to the friendly confines of the Brind ‘ Amour arena and they pounded the Sooke stingers 7-2 with Mark McHattie leading the way with three goals they then ended their week with a game in Kerry Park where the Islanders posted a big 3-1 win followed two days later with a 5-3 win over the Pennisula Panthers to move past the Storm in the VIJHL standings.

In Oceanside the Generals got on the score board first on a goal from Joe Gist at 7.18 before the Storm scored twice on a Travis Gordon first period goal then a power play marker in the 2nd from Patrick Rogan which put the Storm up 2-1 for 38 seconds as Dan MacQueen tied it up at 2-2 heading into the 3rd period. The 3rd period saw Jodan Porterfield notch the winner on Richie Virtanen early in the period and the Storm couldn’t notch the equaliser and fell to the Generals for the 3rd time in January.

On Friday night the pesky Sooke Stingers where the visitors and they played a dump it in and chase game all night and the Storm needing a win to keep pace with Oceanside and Kerry Park used a big 2nd period to put away Sooke as they out shot them 20-2 while scoring 4 times. The games first goal came on a Sooke delayed penalty as a perfect three way passing play saw James Isaacs score on his former team to make it 1-0 at 5.51 followed 4 minutes later by a perfect shot from Travis Gordon to make it 2-0. After Sooke rounded out the 1st period scoring to make it 2-1 heading into the 2nd the Storm played possibly their best period of the season by not allowing the Stingers any offence while getting three goals from McHattie and one from Gordon to take a 6-1 lead into the 3rd. In the 3rd period the teams trade goals with Dylan Behan tipping in a last minute point shot to make the final score 7-2.

On Saturday night the Storm travelled to Kerry Park for a important match up with the Islanders and they fell behind 3-0 and couldn’t get any closer than a late 3rd period power play goal from Mateas Larock and fell 3-1.

After a busy week in VIJHL the standings have Victoria out in front with 66 followed by a log jam that has Oceanside at 56, Kerry Park at 55 the Storm also have 55 but have played 1 more game than the Islanders but two fewer than the Generals and close behind them is Pennisula at 51 followed by Comox at 34,Sannich is closing in with 28 and Sooke has 9 points.

Game results over the past week it was Kerry Park 5 Pennisula 3, Oceanside 7 Comox 3, Victoria 6 Sooke 0, Victoria 5 Pennisula 2 Sannich 6 Comox 3, Victoria 8 Sooke 0.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Storm this week as they travel to Oceanside Wednesday night then to Pennisula Friday before returning to face those same Panthers Sunday night at home.

Time out……Missing from the Storm line-up Friday night were Larock…Jesse Bachmeier…Calen Falk…Dan Baker and Erik Albertson…..Missing from the line-up the previous Friday night against Victoria was Derek Hills who got called up to play for Powell River in the BCHL…..

One of the vital components to operating a successful junior hockey franchise is to provide a comfortable living environment for each one of our players. We strive to find homes that will expose our players to a positive family environment. Being a host family is an experience that we would like you to consider.
