When a new season begins in Jr hockey most local hockey fans aren't to concerned about whether or not the new version of their team can score or hit hard.the concern is whether they have a goalie that can stop the puck and it appears after last Friday night against Kerry Park this years Storm do indeed have a puck stopper in Richie Virtanan.

The 1st year Storm goaltender made 39 saves many of them big time stops in helping the Storm to a 2-2 tie with the always tough Islanders in a fast flowing game that resembled many of the Storm and Kerry Park games from last season.

In the first overtime period with the Islanders on the powerplay Virtanan made three big saves while his goal stick was laying on the ice and once he did pick it up he made yet another big save in keeping the game tied.

After a scoreless 1st period the Islanders went up 2-0 before the period was even a minute old and it looked like the Storm and their fans were in for a long night.

Heading into the 3rd down 2-0 the Storm dug in and on the powerplay Dylan Behan banged in a Erik Albertson rebound in to cut the score to 2-1 then at 11.09 another rebound found Jesse Ross's stick to tie it up at 2-2.

After a exciting 5 minute 4 on 4 1st overtime then another 5 minute 3 on 3 scoreless period a penalty shot for the Storm with only 0.5 seconds remaining gave the locals a chance for the win however the puck rolled off Wes Agassiz's stick to end the game in a well played 2-2 tie.

The following night the Storm traveled down Island to face the second year Zooke Stingers and they came away with a big 7-2 win to improve their record to 2-1-1 for 5 points and into a tie with Kerry Park for 2nd spot behind the 3-0 Victoria Cougars last years league and playoff champions. The Storm have only one weekend game Friday in a rematch with Kerry Park then they face their toughest test of the season Tuesday night in Victoria.

Billet Families
One of the vital components to operating a successful junior hockey franchise is to provide a comfortable living environment for each one of our players. We strive to find homes that will expose our players to a positive family environment. Being a host family is an experience that we would like you to consider.
