For the 2nd time this season the Sannich Braves came into Rod Brind’Amour arena and defeated the Storm and this time it wasn’t pretty for the home team as they went down 5-1 in a game that saw the last 4.24 not even played.

After coming out of weekend play scoring 17 goals after a 5-2 win over Comox then a 12-0 white wash of Sooke the Storm never looked ready to play Tuesday night’s rescheduled game against the Braves and in turn came away with their worst home ice effort of the 2007-08 season to a team that came into town with a 7-27 record.

Not only did the Storm suffer a rare home ice loss their 3rd of the season they may have also lost two defensemen to injuries as Tyson Boucher left in the first period with a possible broken jaw and neck injuries after a hard open ice check then with 4.24 remaining in the game Derek Hills slammed into the end broads where the Storm enter and exit the ice forcing the gate to open. On the play Hills appeared to be injured and in forcing open the gate it made the gate unfixable forcing the referee to halt the game and cancel the remaining 4.24 giving the win to the Braves.

The game started on a bad omen for the Storm as they appeared to loose all their momentum from the weekend when the game that was to start at 7pm didn’t get under way until 7.30 as the league who rescheduled the game from early December forgot to assign any game officials and after some phone calls a crew was found to allow the game to proceed.

The way the Storm played they probably would have been better off if the wasn’t played as they where thrown off their game by the Braves who didn’t allow the Storm to get any flow into their game as their power play which so strong against Comox Friday night gave up 3 short handed goals and just seconds away from a 4th as well as one power play goal to drop their record to 20-9.

While the Storm came up with a stinker credit must also go to the Braves as they played a smart road game and did what they had to do in shutting down the high scoring Storm as they played the trap all night and in doing so allowed the Storm who had 18 shots in the 1st period against Comox had only 19 shots on goal for the whole game while Sannich fired 24 at Richie Virtanan and Tyler Bachmeier.

After a uneventful scoreless 1st period Sannich on goals from Gaven Hohl,Casy Jackson and Matt Maylock jumped to a 3-0 lead before Calen Falk appeared to give the Storm some spark before the 2nd period was over but two more third period goals for the Braves sent many of the fans home early as they cruised to a 5-1 win.

The Storm don’t have to wait long for the rematch as the teams are set to do battle again Friday night at the Brind’ Amour arena with the puck hopefully dropping on time at 7.30.
