After going 1-12 on the power play against Oceanside in a 4-3 overtime loss the week before the Storm connected for 6 power play goals in two games last weekend as they defeated Comox 7-3 and hammered Sooke 8-1 to regain 3rd spot before the Christmas break.

The two big wins the Storm with 39 points moved to within 4 of the Oceanside Generals with three games in hand while the bigger picture have the Storm 11 points behind Victoria with 5 games in hand which would put them only 1 point behind the Cougars if all the games had them come the winners. Right behind the Storm are the Pennisula Panthers who the Storm have 4 games in hand over while the Kerry Park Islanders sit three back but have played 2 more games

The Friday night game against the Glacier Kings looked more like a inter squad game as the spiritless game saw both teams play a fast paced game with very little intensity that these two teams usually display as the rough stuff after the whistle was non existent as both seemed to be looking forward to the Christmas break.

The first period saw both teams score twice with the Storm jumping to a 2-0 lead on goals From Pat Rogan and Tyler Wowchuk on the power play while Comox got goals from Jackson Garrett on the power play while Brent Mankelow first of two tied it up before the period ended. The 2nd period saw the Storm outscore the Kings 3-1 on goals from Derek Hills, Mateas Larock and Brad Gurr on the powerplay while the Kings lone goal came from Mankelow. The final period saw Calen Falk on the power play and Wowchuk’s 2nd of the game close out the scoring as Tyler Bachmeier collected the win by stopping 27 shots.

The Storm travelled to Sooke the following night to play the Stingers for the first time since their rough game two ago at the Gardens where the Storm pounded the Stingers 9-1 in a penalty filled affair. The rematch was similar to the game in Campbell River as far as the result was concerned but this time both teams stuck to hockey as the game had no fighting majors but did have 18 penalties 10 going to the Storm.

With Richie Virtanen back between the pipes the Storm once again humbled the Stingers after only scoring once in the first period they scored 4 in the second and three in the third on their way to a 8-1 win while outshotting the Stingers 41-31.The period goal came from Rogan his first of two goals while second period markers came from Hills,Rogan, Wowchuk and Larock’s first of two on the power play. The third period saw the Storm collect two power play goals from Larock and Wes Agassiz with Erik Albertson notching the games final goal after Sooke’s Kyle Franzius ruined Virtanen’s shutout bid with the Stingers lone goal.

The Storm return to action Sunday night as the have a rematch with the Generals then begin the 2008 part of their season Wednesday night with a trip to Oceanside .Around the VIJHL before the Christmas break it was Pennisula handing the Cougars their 5th loss 3-1 while Kerry Park beat Oceanside 5-2 followed by Pennisula winning again this time 5-1 over Sooke and it was Comox over Sannich 5-1.

Time out………….Newcomer on defence is James Isaac who looked steady on Friday night while Saturday night in Sooke saw Tyson Boucher return from a suspension following the 9-1 win over Sooke….

Billet Families
One of the vital components to operating a successful junior hockey franchise is to provide a comfortable living environment for each one of our players. We strive to find homes that will expose our players to a positive family environment. Being a host family is an experience that we would like you to consider.
