It ended as a rout but in between it turned into a rumble as last Friday night the Sooke Stingers showed that if hockey was about being goons they would be in 1st place but thankfully it's about skating and scoring and because of that they are in last!

While the Storm spanked the Stingers 9-1 the one win team from Sooke took it upon themselves to turn the clock back to when Jr B hockey was nick named Jungle B because of all the fighting and in doing so made a embarrassment of the game, themselves and the league as they ended up with 22 penalties including 4 game misconducts and two 10 minutes misconducts.. To make more of my point is the next night against Comox Valley they must have felt bad about what they did as they went out and stuck to playing hockey on their way to upsetting the Glacier Kings 6-4.

While the Storm carried period leads of 3- 0 and 6-0 the Stingers played a chippy game looking to goat the Storm at every chance and once they scored their 8th goal to mask it 8-1 Sooke decided enough was enough as on the face off Sooke's Andrew Casey who was looking for a fight with anyone all night dropped his gloves and began punching away at Erik Albertson who did his best to just protect himself from the unprovoked attack. The sudden fight quickly became a line brawl after Sooke's Brian Salter jumped in to help his team mate which in turn brought Tyson Boucher into the fray who was quickly jumped himself leavening all the remaining players finding partners in the scuffle which ended with Casey,Salter,Boucher and Albertson all being tossed with just over 2 minutes remaining. With all the commotion from the fight somehow the Storms 8th goal was somehow not recorded leaving the final score 8-1 not what should have been a 9-1 Storm win.

While the fights somehow highlighted the game there was a hockey game played in between and it was all Storm as they were strong on the power play and penalty kill all night as they were led by Jesse Bahmeier's two goals and steady goal tending from Richie Virtanan in recording their 15th win to keep themselves in a tie for 3rd overall in the VIJHL with Pennisula and Kerry Park however they have 4 games in hand on both teams.

The first period saw the Storm score the first goal from Travis Gordon just after the Storm killed a four minute penalty where Sooke never managed a single shot on goal. Two straight tip in goals by Bachmeier the first shorthanded at 10.11 then at 17.20 had the Storm heading off with a 3-0 lead .

The 2nd period saw captain Tyler Wowchuk increase their lead to 4-0 at 2.46 followed by a 5 on 3 power play goal from Brad Gurr to make it 5-0 before newcomer Pat Rogan notched the Storm's 2nd short handed goal of the night to make it 6-0 after two periods.

The ice was still wet when Jesse Ross scored at 56 seconds to make it 7-0 before a Sooke power play goal from Wyatt Christensen broke the shutout attempt for Virtanan at 5.37 . The Storm poked in a rebound at 17.50 to make it 8-1 but as earlier reported it somehow went unrecorded as it was during the centre ice face off where the puck was dropped by the referee which he does ONLY after a goal that the line brawl began. Another power play goal from Derek Hills put a capper on the night as he drilled home a point shot for what WAS the Storm's 9th goal to make the final score 9-1 at 18.36.

The Storm return to the ice this Friday night for what should be a real good game as second place Oceanside Generals with former Storm sniper Karl Hagg in the line up face off against the Storm who have a incredible 11-1 record on home ice including a season opening win against the same Generals. The Storm head off Sunday for a road game in Pennisula against the Panthers. Storm remaining games before Christmas has Comox here Friday December 21st then a rematch with the Stingers in Sooke Saturday the 22nd before the Christmas break.

Around the VIJHL over the past week saw the Victoria Cougars begin the week with only their 3rd loss of the season 7-5 to Pennisula Monday night while Oceanside began their week with a 6-1 win over Kerry Park . Other games saw Victoria nip Kerry Park 5-3 who then nipped Comox 4-3 in overtime it was Oceanside 5-3 over Pennisula, Victoria over Sannich 4-2 and Pennisula ended the week nipping Oceanside 4-3.

Time out..It turned out to be a quick visit for Chris Boyoko who was traded to the Storm for Hagg but now has a new home playing in Comox for the Glacier Kings..A earlier season loss for Victoria against Oceanside on November 24th was reversed as Oceanside used a player that was not permitted to play therefore the league took away their win and two points and gave them to Victoria..If the Sooke game wasn't bad enough for the league a game this week between Oceanside and Kerry Park had 12 game misconducts!!!!!....

Billet Families
One of the vital components to operating a successful junior hockey franchise is to provide a comfortable living environment for each one of our players. We strive to find homes that will expose our players to a positive family environment. Being a host family is an experience that we would like you to consider.
